Concreting FAQ
Straight answers to the questions Brisbane homeowners ask us most. Still unsure? Call 0492 984 440.
How long before I can drive on a new driveway?
You can usually walk on new concrete after a day or so and drive a car on it after about 7 days. Concrete keeps gaining strength for weeks, so avoid heavy vehicles for longer.
Will my new concrete crack?
All concrete can develop fine cracks. Good preparation, reinforcement and control joints keep cracking to the joints where it is planned and stop wide, uneven cracks.
What is exposed aggregate?
It is concrete where the top layer of cement is washed off during finishing to show the stones in the mix. It is hard wearing, non slip and hides marks well.
Do I need council approval for a driveway crossover?
In Brisbane, work on the footpath crossover from the kerb to your boundary usually needs a council permit. We can explain what applies to your property.
How thick should a driveway be?
A typical residential driveway is around 100 mm thick with steel mesh, on a compacted base. Areas taking heavier vehicles may need more.
What does a new driveway cost?
It depends on size, access, removal of old concrete and the finish. We measure up and give you a clear written quote.
Can you pour a slab for a kit shed?
Yes. Send us the shed size and the supplier's slab requirements, and we will quote to match.
